Part 2 Why Onshore wind is folly

Lets set the record straight.

Onshore windfarms are NOT about reducing CO2

They ARE about making money by producing THE MOST EXPENSIVE ELECTRICITY available - THAT YOU PAY FOR.

Why?

Because the previuos Government targets were set NOT to REDUCE CO2, they are to PRODUCE ELECTRICITY.

That target does NOT set any figure for the reduction in CO2 output, it sets a target for produding energy by renewables!

So why the rush for wind?

Simple - a QUICK FIX that YOU PAY FOR.

Wind is the most expensive form of electricity prodcution, and plenty of lobbying by the BWEA has consistently pointed out that without the CONSUMER PAID FOR subsidies in the form of ROCs, that wind energy isn't economic to produce at the level desired.

Far LESS COSTLY methods are:
Ground Source Heat Pumps
Air - Air Heat Pumps
Micro Hydro
Wave / Tidal
etc etc

AND the BIG ONE - Insulation!!

IF the Government were serious about reducing CO2, then if the same amount of money that is spent on "renewables" was instead spent on insulation, the Governments own figures show that Electricty Comsumption would GO DOWN, and we could actually REDUCE CO2 by the figures desired.

The problem? - It's not in businesses financial interests to do so - that would be a one of fix that would work FOREVER! Wheres by producing MORE Electricity we PAY double!

Who Pays? - YOU DO!

What? Yes - YOU DO.

(What the windfarm people wont tell you ....)

The way the previous Government set up the scheme they call 'RENEWABLE OBLIGATION CERTFICATES' is just that - an obligation to PRODUCE electricity NOT REDUCE CO2, and they then specified an additional levy that any PROUCER can charge, and these are then LEGALLY PASSED ON TO YOU, the consumer to pay.

So why wind?

Simple, it's a quick fix, as far as being able to co-ordinate, plan and build, in the scale of ENERGY PRODUCTION PLANTS, commissioning an Industrioal Wind Power Station is FAST. compared to say a convential power station that could easily take 10 years tio design and build.

Hi Matthieu,

I'm afraid there's much more that's incorrect here than I have time to go into, but I will say that the price of electricity derived from wind is coming down all the time, and that the point of subsidies is to build the industry to the point where it no longer needs them. I should also point out that the total cost of these subsidies over the last ten years is £1 billion. We spent around £35 billion on defence in the last year alone. Compared to other areas of government spending - and especially to the enormous public liabilities that the Government bears for nuclear plants - it's a tiny amount.
