Keep Supporting Wind
This weekend 101 MPs called on the government to slash investment in safe, clean wind power; relying instead on emerging renewable technologies that aren’t yet mature enough to provide for our energy needs, and imaginary carbon-capture technology and nuclear power stations that haven’t yet been built.
They’re wrong. And cutting investment in wind energy will hit your wallet harder as rocketing fossil fuel costs make up the vast bulk of your energy bill. Building a sustainable base of wind power in the UK costs you on average 19p a week, but without it we will be forced to rely more and more on volatile imported fuel, not to mention the tens of thousands of UK jobs the industry is set to create over the next few years. And shifting all our wind energy offshore won’t cut your fuel bill.
We need you to tell your MP that enough is enough. The UK cannot keep relying solely on dirty, polluting sources of power when there is an abundance of safe natural energy to power our homes.
Click the big 'email your MP' yellow button to your left to tell your MP to support wind. Please note you must be signed in for this to appear!
We’ve provided some suggestions if you’re in a hurry, but as always it’s best if you really make the letter your own.
Here’s a list of the 101 MPs that signed the letter, published in the Telegraph. Is your elected representative on there?
Wind energy works. It’s safe, clean and reduces our carbon emissions.
Far from adding exorbitant fees, green energy policies add only 19p a week onto the average energy bill in order to develop a secure base of sustainable energy. Every time the wind blows, we reduce our dependency on expensive imported fuel.
Onshore wind is the cheapest low carbon source of energy, and with a quarter of the UKs power generation set to be decommissioned over the next five years we cannot rely solely on pricey gas to meet this need.
As my elected representative I am calling on you to stand up for wind energy as a vital and trusted part of our energy mix.
Yours Sincerely
