Hackney gives a big 'YES!' to wind power

17th February 2010

Residents of Hackney have come out in favour of wind power in a back way, with over 87% of respondents to a consultation about the construction of a wind turbine at East Marsh saying 'YES!'.

One wind turbine is already planned in Waltham Forest as part of the Olympic project, and the opportunity to have an extra turbine was presented to the people of the Hackney by the Council. Over 700 residents took part in the consultation. Once the Council has selected a provider for the wind turbine it, together with its counterpart in Waltham Forest, could provide enough electricity to supply Hackney's main Council buildings and nearly all of its street lighting.

This is good news for Hackney - not only will taxpayers save money thanks to cheaper electricity for Council facilities, but it'll be greener, too.
